The Takenehöjden Energy Park combines 12 wind turbines with large-scale energy storage and involves substantial investment in grid upgrades in the municipality of Årjäng. The aim is to strengthen the electricity supply in Årjäng and the Västra Värmland region in the long term, as well as to contribute to a robust, flexible and future-proof energy system across the entire region.
If we are to meet the energy needs of households and industry, substantial investments must be made in a stable and functioning electricity grid. These investments open up fantastic opportunities for the future industrial clusters in Töcksfors and Årjäng municipality.
The Takenehöjden Energy Park combines green electricity production through wind power with large-scale battery storage of electricity. Electricity at competitive prices and access to grid capacity are crucial for industrial competitiveness, new business establishments and Årjäng’s future as a growth oriented municipality.
By locating the energy park close to Ellevio’s planned grid reinforcement between Borgvik and Årjäng, both green electricity and extensive grid reinforcements will become available to Årjäng municipality. The investment is a key piece of the puzzle in sizing the electricity grid between Borgvik and Årjäng so that it is capable of supporting the growing industrial cluster in Töcksfors and a thriving business community in the municipality of Årjäng.
For Fu-Gen, a successful project means working together to create local value through our investments. We therefore set aside 1% of the project’s annual gross revenue – approximately 1.5 million SEK per year – which is then returned to the local community through local revenue sharing, also known as ‘community funding’. It is the residents of Årjäng who decide how the money should be used and how the community fund should be distributed. As project operators, we have a flexible model where the local return either goes to the municipal coffers or to a community fund association.
During the constructionm of the Takenehöjden Energy Park, services will be required in groundworks, concrete works, electrical works, hotels, restaurants, etc. An energy park also needs to procure a range of services for operation and maintenance over the approximately 30 years it supplies electricity. Årjäng Municipality receives funds equivalent to the property tax for wind power. As early as 2026, Årjäng Municipality received 4.7 million SEK from the Swedish Energy Agency for existing, installed wind power, and further funds have also been allocated for 2027. The government has stated on several occasions that the scheme involving tax incentive to municipalities will continue in the future, and with the Takenehöjden Energy Park, the municipality is expected to receive a further 2–2.5 million SEK per year.
