Lorenzo Lanteri and Yaron Feingers had built and operated renewable energy projects together in Italy since 2008. In 2016, they turned to Sweden in a moment when the renewable energy industry was going through a difficult period, but Sweden remaining one of Europe’s most welcoming markets for renewable energy, with ambitious climate targets of becoming 100% Renewable by 2040. The country was also home to energy-intensive industry in steel, mining, pulp and paper, and chemicals. As these industries electrify as part of the energy transition, demand for fossil-free electricity is rising.
As they explored the market, one name kept coming up: Matthias Rapp, who had decades of experience in Swedish wind power. At their first meeting in Stockholm, the three found they shared the same vision of an energy company built for the future. They named it Fu-Gen, short for Future Generation, and founded it in 2017.
Lorenzo Lanteri contributed legal and financial expertise from the energy sector, Yaron Feingers brought hands-on experience of building solar and biogas power plants and Matthias Rapp brought in-depth knowledge of the Swedish wind power market. This gave the company Swedish expertise from day one. Matthias Rapp chaired the board of Fu-Gen AG from 2018 to 2020, when Lorenzo Lanteri took over.
